Stephon Castle headlines 4 Spurs NBA 2K27 player ratings that will definitely need major update this season

The San Antonio Spurs emerged as a legitimate title contender last season; after two subpar seasons, they blossomed in Year 3 of Victor Wembanyama’s career, winning 62 games in the regular season all while becoming the biggest threat to the Oklahoma City Thunder’s dynasty in the making.

They ended up dethroning the Thunder, and they seemed to be on their way to winning a title, but then they ran into a more experienced and composed New York Knicks team in the NBA Finals — losing in five games despite leading by double digits at one point in all five contests.

NBA 2K ended up rewarding the Spurs’ progression last season with healthy raises to their individual players’ overall ratings throughout the NBA 2K26 cycle. Victor Wembanyama reached 97 overall, Stephon Castle approached 88 overall, and De’Aaron Fox was also an 87. They had three other 80-plus overall rated players in Dylan Harper (84), Devin Vassell (82), and Julian Champagnie (80).

NBA 2K27 has given the Spurs more of the same treatment, as Wembanyama is among three of the top-rated players in the NBA, remaining at a 97 overall. However, 2K has also given players throughout the league lower overall ratings across the board, and these four Spurs youngsters should prove these ratings wrong as they take the next step in their development.

Stephon Castle (87 overall)

Castle is so good at just 21 years of age that it’s difficult to imagine just how much better of a player he can be for the Spurs. He played with so much poise in the grand postseason stage, stuffing the stat sheet, getting to his spots consistently, and showing up every night against the best defenses in the NBA.

Being 87 rated means that Castle is already one of the best players in NBA 2K27, reflecting his standing as one of the fastest-rising stars in the association. Castle is already rated the same as long-time All-Stars such as James Harden, Pascal Siakam, Bam Adebayo, and Kyrie Irving, and he’s also on par, according to 2K, with stars already on their second NBA contracts in Jalen Johnson, Evan Mobley, and Paolo Banchero.

Among those rated 87 or better, Castle is the second-youngest, only behind Dallas Mavericks rising star Cooper Flagg.

But Castle already reached the 88 mark in NBA 2K26, and it’s not entirely inconceivable that he blossoms even more into a bigger force for the Spurs in Year 3 of his career.

He averaged 17/5/7 last season; it’s not too unreasonable for him to approach the 20 points per game mark while adding six rebounds and eight assists per contest. That should at least make him worthy of a boost up to 88 or 89, perhaps even 90 if he shatters the already-lofty expectations many have for him.

Dylan Harper (85 overall)

NBA 2K is all in on the Harper hype train that they have him rated higher than Fox (84 overall). Many expect Fox to keep his starting spot over Harper for next season, and yet here Harper is, being better rated than the one above him in the depth chart.

Harper is already the second-highest rated sophomore behind Flagg, and this just reflects how high the hopes of many are for the 20-year-old who showed out all playoffs long. It did not help Fox as well that he routinely choked on the NBA Finals stage, and now, Fox’s stock is on an all-time low.

There is the always the potential of a sophomore slump for Harper, and having an 85-rating means that short of a leap to true stardom, there may be nowhere to go for him but down.

But the sky is the limit for the fearless Harper, who played in all 23 playoff games for the Spurs and had an average plus-minus of plus-6 in his 26.7 minutes per contest. Harper gets to the rim relentlessly, and he’s an uber-efficient scorer despite not having the most prolific three-point shot just yet.

It’s only a matter of time before the Spurs deem Harper to be too good to keep in a bench role, and it will be interesting to see how they manage their stacked backcourt rotation. One thing’s for sure, Harper should reach up to an 87 or 88 overall once he continues breaking out for one of the league’s best teams.

Carter Bryant (76 overall)

It was understandable why, more often than not, Carter Bryant looked lost whenever the Spurs threw him out there on the court. He had a role in the 2026 NBA playoffs, but head coach Mitch Johnson had him on a short leash.

Bryant’s role last year was to annoy the opposition, guard top-level scoring guards, and make open threes. Him putting the ball on the floor spelled trouble for the Spurs. In NBA 2K, however, his blend of athleticism and shooting should translate to some quality play, even though his ratings at the moment are far from the best.

He only has a 77 three-ball, with a 74 midrange and a poor 60 close shot. His shot IQ and offensive consistency of 50 and 55, respectively, will make hitting shots with him consistently a bit difficult.

But the Spurs have high hopes for Bryant, and under the tutelage of their veteran acquisition Tobias Harris, who also needed time to establish himself as a starting-caliber player in the NBA, he should show growth in Year 2 of his NBA career — which NBA 2K should reward with a +2 or +3 boost to his rating later on in the season.

Tarris Reed Jr. (70 overall)

The Spurs made a concerted effort to beef up their frontcourt during the 2026 NBA Draft, with Tarris Reed Jr. out of UConn being one of their first-round selections. Reed, to begin the 2026-27 season, will be the Spurs’ third-string big man behind Wembanyama and Luke Kornet.

If there’s anything Reed does, it’s pursue boards relentlessly and buy into his role. Considering how much Kornet struggled against faster big men, the Spurs may want to prepare Reed to be a potential rotation piece come playoff time.

And Reed’s motor should make him a fan favorite, and him doing well in his limited minutes should at least warrant a +3 or +4 boost to his overall rating, as a 70 rating is more appropriate to give someone who is out of the rotation entirely.
