Stephen A. Smith shares the first trait he looks for in a potential partner

Stephen A. Smith did not hold back when he shared what he is looking for in a potential partner.

The ESPN host was a guest on Cam Newton’s Funky Friday podcast on May 1 when he told the former Carolina Panthers quarterback what traits he is first looking for in dating. He started by sharing that “intelligence” and “conversation” are what matter most. As he was naming those traits, he stopped himself to name the first trait he was looking for.

“Let me guess. Let me scratch that,” he said. “That’s two and three on the list. Sex appeal starts. It starts there.”

Smith shared the importance to him that there is some kind of sex appeal there to get him wanting to pursue the woman in the first place.

“If I’m not interested, I’m not interested,” he said. “We’re not going to sit here and lie. If I’m not attracted to you, it ain’t going to work.”

He didn’t share any specific details as what if he has a preference and simply shared, “I like what I like and you need to possess those qualities otherwise it’s just not going to work. It’s just that simple. Sex appeal. Figure it out.”

It’s unclear if Smith is in a relationship at the moment, but he has been clear that he keeps his dating life private. There have been internet rumors over the years that he was dating former First Take host Molly Qerim but both of them have denied those allegations.

“No, there’s nothing going on. You understand what I’m saying? America’s been lying about that for years,” Smith stated at the time.

“The funniest part is people actually believe it,” Qerim added. “It’s ridiculous.”
