Steelers’ Aaron Rodgers shuts down possibility of playing past this season

Aaron Rodgers has made it known that he plans to call it a career after the 2026 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was interviewed on the NFL Network and explained how he decided to come back and play this year under head coach Mike McCarthy, but he said there’s nothing that could happen that would make him want to return again 2027.

Rodgers explained that he had several conversations with McCarthy after the Steelers had hired him to replace Mike Tomlin. All of those conversations went well, and both men were in agreement that the concept of Rodgers playing quarterback for the Steelers this season was a good idea.

Rodgers appears to be relaxed and happy in the early stages of training camp and that he is anticipating a successful season. However, no matter how much he and the team accomplish this year, he has no plans to continue his career.

“I am real glad to be back,” Rodgers said. “But this is going to be it as far as playing goes. I am not returning after this year and I feel very comfortable with that decision.”

The Steelers are anticipating that they should be able to move the ball well through the air with Rodgers throwing the ball to wide receivers DK Metcalf and former Indianapolis Colt Michael Pittman Jr. Those two should give the Steelers a strong receiving duo for the 42-year-old Rodgers.

The quarterback completed 327 of 498 passes for 3,322 yards last year while throwing 24 TD passes and 7 interceptions. While he has lost a couple of steps when he has to run and may not have the same velocity he once did, he is very accurate and reads defenses quite well.
