5-Star 2027 RB picks Texas over Texas A&M
Texas football pulled off one massive five-star recruiting win in June by landing cornerback John Meredith. The Longhorns just added their second massive offseason victory. This time landing five-star running back Landen Williams-Callis over rival Texas A&M.
The star from Randle High in Richmond, Texas shut his well-documented College Football Recruiting process down Saturday. He earned his fifth star via 247Sports composite rankings, bringing one of the more decorated prep football resumes over to coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns.
Williams-Callis has racked up 7,554 yards with 125 rushing touchdowns across three seasons. He also rose as one of the nation’s fastest running backs for the 2027 class, owning a reported 10.65 time in the 100-meter dash.
Texas recruiting insider for On3 Justin Wells handed the 5-foot-7 back a stirring comparison to one revered Heisman Trophy winner.
“Landen Williams-Callis might be the most exciting ‘Reggie Bush type’ that Steve Sarkisian has recruited at Texas to date,” Wells wrote. “He’s been a volume runner for Randle, almost absurdly so with 324 carries in his junior year (for 3,502 yards and 59 touchdowns), but projects as a part of a tandem at Texas.”
Wells adds that Williams-Callis’ game is built more for between the 20s and not near the goal line. But Texas lands one of the nation’s most coveted running back prospects in years.
Williams-Callis reeled in an eye-popping 70 total offers during his recruitment. The rival Aggies weren’t the only blue blood program chasing him. Same with national champion Indiana and Big Ten powerhouse Oregon.
His commitment makes up for Texas losing four-star safety Greedy James to LSU on July 2.
