Michael Penix Jr. updates fans on his knee injury recovery
Fans of the Atlanta Falcons are on pins and needles involving the quarterback room in NFL Training Camp. Tua Tagovailoa is dealing with an early back ailment. Meanwhile, Michael Penix Jr. is still trying to work his way back from his 2025 NFL Injury.
Atlanta’s original No. 1 QB sustained a season-ending knee tear. Many fans are wondering how healthy he’ll be moving forward. Especially as Atlanta turns to Kevin Stefanski as the new head coach.
Penix cleared the air on his recovery journey with ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler Saturday.
“I feel great. I’m right where I need to be,” Penix began. “I’m just taking it one day at a time and trying my best to get better each day.”
He is acknowledging his long term health, though. He’s trusted his rehab journey while adjusting to a new regime. Plus now he gets another past first round selection in the room with Tagovailoa signing in NFL Free Agency.
So is Penix focusing on beating out the former Miami Dolphins all-pro? Penix delivered a blunt admission there.
“I have to focus on getting back on the field. The whole starter thing, that comes later,” Penix said.
Penix is earning his share of reps with the playmakers Atlanta has this season. But he walks into a more stacked QB room that’s not just limited to Tagovailoa’s arrival to the franchise.
Longtime Dallas Cowboys backup and brief starter Cooper Rush is here too. Rush arrived on July 29 while camps began to start up, but lands here due to the Falcons’ QB injuries.
