Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers’ LT gives concerningly cryptic injury return timeline
The Pittsburgh Steelers now have their quarterback in place with veteran Aaron Rodgers re-signed. But their offensive line is now a work in progress.
Broderick Jones would’ve been in line to start at left tackle after starting 11 games at the position in 2025. However, a devastating neck injury has left his status murky at best. Even Jones still isn’t sure when he is expected to return, via Chris Harlan of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
“I don’t really have a timeline,” Jones said. “They didn’t really give me a timeline,” he said. “They’re just monitoring it day by day, and we go from there.”
Jones suffered a setback in his recovery from neck surgery, leading to his extended absence. The Steelers then declined his fifth-year option, putting his long-term status into question. For now, Pittsburgh is just trying to get the offensive lineman back on the field. But if/when that’ll happen is still unforeseen.
In the meantime, the Steelers used their first-round pick on fellow tackle Max Iheanachor. Pittsburgh may end up moving Troy Fautanu to left tackle, keeping Iheanachor at right. But barring another injury, both should be on the outside of the team’s offensive line in 2026.
If Jones is able to return from injury, perhaps he can work back into the mix at a swing capacity. But his time as a starter already took a major blow when he suffered his injury. Between the option decline and Iheanachor’s arrival, Jones may not be long for Pittsburgh. As long as he is on the team though, the Steelers will be paying close attention to the offensive lineman’s injury recovery.
