Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama gets idea from Lou Williams that would ‘piss people off’

The San Antonio Spurs are down 2-3 in the Western Conference Finals after suffering a 127-114 Game 5 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. After the conclusion of the matchup, Victor Wembanyama was nowhere to be seen for his postgame presser, as he was allegedly too frustrated to talk with media members. NBA legend Lou Williams gave Wembanyama some advice about how to handle the situation moving forward.

In the latest episode of “Run it Back,” sponsored by FanDuel, Williams delivered a message to the 22-year-old center, stating that he cannot skip postgame press conferences because the sports world, along with fans, wants to hear his opinions and takes. However, the former three-time Sixth Man of the Year Award winner told Wembanyama to answer questions in French if he’s too frustrated with a loss.

“If you want to piss some people off, do [the press conference] in French,” Williams said to Wembanyama. “But we gotta hear from you after these games.”

Game 5 didn’t go Victor Wembanyama’s way whatsoever, and it might be part of why he was so frustrated. It was the first time the Thunder managed to keep the third-year pro in check in the series, as Wembanyama recorded 20 points, six rebounds, one assist, two steals, and three blocks, shooting 26.7% from the field and failing to score a single three-pointer.

It was easily Wembanyama’s worst performance of the series so far, as he was nowhere near as efficient as he’s been throughout the Western Conference Finals. Luckily for the former No. 1 overall pick, he and the Spurs have another chance to keep their Finals hopes alive.

San Antonio must win two straight games to reach the championship round. Game 6 will take place at home, giving the Spurs a real opportunity to potentially even up the series. That contest is scheduled to tip off on Thursday, May 28, at 8:30 p.m. EST.
