Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama gets 100% real on potential Donald Trump distraction in Game 3

Not wanting to miss the opportunity to be in the spotlight, President Donald Trump announced that he will attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Monday.

It prompted the cancellation of the watch party outside the famed venue, which has been a tradition in New York, providing fans who cannot afford tickets a shared experience in cheering for their beloved team.

Some have posited that Trump’s presence could be a distraction for the Spurs and the Knicks. While Victor Wembanyama acknowledged the notion, he said he is not worried.

“Not really. I think it could be, but isolating myself is something I’ve practiced over the years, and I think I’m good at it, so it’s not a problem. This is similar to something media-wise like the Olympics,” said Wembanyama in a media conference.

The 22-year-old superstar led France to the gold medal game against the United States in the 2024 Paris Olympics. It is also worth noting that he studied meditation with monks in China in the offseason to help him better deal with the mental aspect of the NBA.

Plus, being from France, he is probably not invested in Trump, although he informs himself on the issues in the United States, even speaking out against the fatal shootings by federal agents in Minnesota in January.

Wembanyama’s counterpart, Karl-Anthony Towns, has earned praise from fans after appearing to cleverly sidestep the question about Trump’s attendance in Game 3.

To recall, Trump attended the Super Bowl between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs at Caesars Superdome in 2025. He was loudly booed.
