Spurs set insane NBA Finals record in Game 4 decimation of Knicks

The San Antonio Spurs came to New York as the desperate team in the NBA Finals after dropping the first two games against the Knicks. After wining Game 3 on the road, Mitch Johnson’s squad did not lose that edge in Game 4.

The Spurs dominated the first half of Game 4 right from the opening tip, jumping out to an immediate 12-2 lead and never looking back. San Antonio was suffocating on defense and precise on offense, lighting up the nets from 3-point range.

By the end of the half, the Spurs had accumulated a 27-point lead and set a record in the process. They drilled 14 3-pointers in the opening two quarters, setting a new NBA Finals record.

The Spurs didn’t make history by just launching up any shot, either. They finished the first half 14-of-26 from 3, a blistering pace that the Knicks simply couldn’t match. Now, the deficit may be too big for New York to overcome in the second half, even if the Spurs do cool off.

Nearly the entire Spurs lineup was red-hot from distance in the first half. Devin Vassell drilled four threes without missing one, and De’Aaron Fox finished 3-of-5 from deep. Dylan Harper also knocked down a trio of triples off the bench on his way to 15 points, while Julian Champagnie, Victor Wembanyama and Carter Bryant all added one from beyond the arc.

On the other side of the coin, the Knicks shot just 4-of-12 from deep and just 41% from the field in the first half. They were hurt by some early foul trouble to Karl-Anthony Towns, which killed their spacing and made it very hard to score on Wembanyama and this Spurs defense.

Now, the Knicks have a ton of work to do to get back into Game 4 as they attempt what would be the largest comeback in NBA Finals history. If they can’t do that against a red-hot Spurs team that is starting to build some momentum, they will lose home-court advantage and head back to San Antonio in what would be a tied series.
