Spurs fan in Dennis Rodman jersey tries to fight every Knicks fan at Penn Station
The New York Knicks are finally NBA champions for the first time in 53 years. They earned the title Saturday night when they registered a come-from-behind 94-90 triumph over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals at the Frost Bank Center. Knicks fans have been a big part of the team’s story, as a host of A-list celebrities have filled the courtside seats and their every-day fans have supported superstar Jalen Brunson and the team with reckless abandon.
Those fans have gone over the line at multiple points during the series, and Spurs fans who voiced their support for their team while in New York had to put up with abuse at multiple levels. Several San Antonio fans were attacked and beaten by Knicks fans, merely for rooting for their own team. Those attacks came after the Knicks registered a 29-point comeback victory in Game 4 of the series at Madison Square Garden.
An angry Spurs fan attempted to take out his frustration on Knicks fans when he attempted to fight New York supporters at Penn Station. The New York Post reported that the Spurs fan — wearing a Dennis Rodman San Antonio jersey — pushed, shoved and threw punches at multiple New Yorkers. Police came over to calm the Spurs fan down and later escorted him out of Penn Station and away from the New York fans.
Knicks fans continued to celebrate the team’s series victory in San Antonio and New York. While the clinching game was on the road, Knicks fans made the trip to Texas so they could witness their team’s first NBA title since the 1973 season.
