Spurs’ Dylan Harper sends heartwarming message to brother Ron for new Celtics contract

San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper is celebrating a big moment for his family. His older brother, Ron Harper Jr., is reportedly staying in Boston after ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Saturday that the Celtics intend to re-sign Harper Jr. to a new three-year, $9 million deal.

Boston is declining the forward’s $2.6 million team option for 2026-27 to clear the way for the longer agreement, and Dylan wasted no time showing his support. He shared the report on his Instagram story and added a short, heartfelt note.

“Cmonnnn harppppp this just the beginning,” Dylan wrote, alongside two red hearts and a 100 emoji.

The message hit home for a reason. Ron Harper Jr. went undrafted out of Rutgers in 2022 and spent his early seasons moving between the Toronto Raptors and Detroit Pistons on two-way contracts. He landed in Boston on a training camp deal last offseason, earned a two-way contract, then signed a standard deal in April after a strong stretch of play.

Much of that climb happened away from the spotlight. Harper Jr. put up steady numbers with the Maine Celtics in the G League before getting his chance at the NBA level. He averaged 4.2 points and 1.7 rebounds across 29 games for Boston in 2025-26, with three starts, and closed the year with a 27-point outing against the Orlando Magic.

The new contract is the first guaranteed multiyear deal of his career, and it ties him to Boston through the 2028-29 season. The structure also helps the Celtics manage their books as the front office sorts through a busy offseason.

The moment carries added weight for Dylan. He went No. 2 overall to the Spurs in the 2025 NBA Draft and earned Kia All-Rookie First Team honors in his debut season. Both brothers are sons of five-time NBA champion Ron Harper Sr.

The Harper family now has two players signed to NBA rosters, and Dylan’s message suggests he believes the best is still ahead.
