Spurs’ De’Aaron Fox pops up on injury report before Game 1 vs. Thunder
With the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder, there is a key player on the injury report ahead of Game 1. As the Spurs and Thunder series in the Western Conference Finals is sure to be competitive, this player’s status will be closely monitored.
San Antonio star De’Aaron Fox has been put on the NBA’s official injury report as “questionable” with “right ankle soreness,” as during the Game 6 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, the guard hobbled off the court in the first half. Though Fox returned to the court in the second half, he would say after the game that the ankle “hurts a bit,” but says he’s “all right.”
“I’m all right,” Fox said, via USA Today. “I mean, it hurts a bit. It’s the side, not the back, so I felt comfortable being back out there.”
Spurs’ Mitch Johnson on the toughness of De’Aaron Fox
This past season for the Spurs, Fox has averaged 18.6 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game while shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from deep in 72 games, being an instrumental point guard for the team. Head coach Mitch Johnson would speak about Fox’s resilience as “one of the toughest guys in the league.”
“He doesn’t miss any games,” Johnson said. “He’s one of the guys — he doesn’t talk about it much, he doesn’t show much (emotion). He had moments in this game that we needed to settle us. A lot of times, probably, the casual observer wouldn’t understand when you’re up 16 points, hypothetically, you don’t need to be settled in.”
“It feels like you’ve got a big lead on the road in the playoffs against this team,” Johnson continued. “That’s not the case. He made multiple plays all night long, whether they showed up in the box score or not, that just settled us and was a catalyst on both ends. He doesn’t get enough credit for that.”
At any rate, it remains to be seen if Fox is present or misses Game 1 against the Thunder in the Western Conference Finals on Monday night.
