Soccer stadium project funded by Native American tribe nearly triples in cost as $450m ambition realized
Stadium ambitions continue to grow for Sacramento Republic FC.
The USL Championship club, which is majority-owned by the Wilton Rancheria Native American tribe, initially announced a $175 million project in August 2025.

A 12,000-seat stadium was unveiled during groundbreaking, but plans have since changed.
Sacramento Republic project expanded with staggering new cost
Nine months on, and the club has released new renderings of a canopied 20,000-capacity soccer arena, which will be designed by Manica and is set to cost $450m, according to the Sports Business Journal.
The Wilton Rancheria tribe is financing the new facility, which is already under construction at the Sacramento Railyards.
In a joint decision, the tribe and the club have nearly tripled the project budget and added 8,000 seats to the initial plans.
That kind of work was initially planned for future phases, but has been moved up because of strong ticket demand and a desire to accelerate the construction.
“The ownership continued to weigh the option of that phased approach,” Dustin Vicari, the Republic’s chief revenue officer, said.
“And really, the future is now.”
The expanded stadium project hammers home a new level of ambition for the USL club, who have played at the $3m Heart Health Park since 2014, in front of less than 12,000 fans.
“Building bigger is a catalytic investment in the long-term transformation of downtown Sacramento,” Chris Franklin, COO for Wilton Rancheria, said last month.
“Wilton Rancheria is bringing the capital, vision, and execution needed to turn this site into a destination that drives economic impact, community connection, and sustained growth for the entire region.”

Recently-appointed Republic president Tim Holt, meanwhile, added that a new home has been needed to ‘take the club to the next level’ for quite some time.
What features will the new Sacramento Republic stadium boast?
The stadium will be the biggest pro-sports and entertainment venue in the region, and will serve as the anchor for a new billion-dollar neighborhood that will help double the size of Downtown.
It’s designed to set a ‘new standard’ for the soccer and outdoor entertainment experience in Sacramento, with a particular focus on improving fan experience to create a world-class venue.
The most prominent feature, as requested by fans, will be the overhead canopy that will provide coverage for every seat.
Meanwhile, four massive trusses weighing 3,800 tons across the top of the canopy will become distinct additions to the skyline.
The open-air design, featuring open corner terraces, will allow natural airflow and help fans take advantage of Sacramento’s evening cooling, which will keep the environment comfortable throughout the summer season.

Behind one goal, a 1,500-person safe-standing supporters’ section is planned, with the hope a home crowd can bring energy, noise, and passion to define the Republic’s matchday experience.
As many as 33 luxury suites will offering premium hospitality and elevated sight-lines, while club seating will also be on offer.
The Republic’s stadium will be capable of hosting wider events, with an expanded capacity of 27,000.
It remains on track to open in 2028, even with big changes to the project.
