SL vs IND 2026: Sri Lanka vs India Highlights & Review – 2nd Test, Day 2

The visitors brushed plenty confident strokes of domination all across the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo on Day 2 as they added 203 to their overnight total to finish with 503/9 declared against Sri Lanka. Rishabh Pant, who had to walk back after retiring hurt on the opening day, came out to bat after India lost Saransh Jain early in the morning.

Pant got to his half-century, and batting alongside him was another wicketkeeper, Dhruv Jurel. The two did the bulk of India's scoring on the second day, with the senior pro departing for 63 right after the tea break was taken as Keshara Nuwantha got him trapped. Jurel then took the onus upon himself before Shubman Gill eventually called the batters back as the scorecard breached past the 500-run mark.

As the hosts batted briefly towards the end of the day's play, the Indians managed to bag a couple of handy breakthroughs as Lahiru Udara (1 off 6) succumbed to an excellent catch by Yashasvi Jaiswal in the slip cordon, while nightwatcher Prabath Jayasuriya (2 off 7) was also dismissed on the last ball before the umpires called stumps owing to bad light.

Top batting performance of the day – Dhruv Jurel

Dhruv Jurel was the best batter for India all day and remained unbeaten on 115 to make a statement. This was also the second hundred in the format for the young cricketer, as he stood his guard strong at the crease and paved the way for the Indians to post a strong total on the board. Jurel's knock was laced with nine fours and a couple of maximums.

Top bowling performance of the day - Prabath Jayasuriya

While the Lankans had very little to cheer about on the second day, Prabath Jayasuriya shone with his couple of important breakthroughs. The experienced left-arm spinner first got the better of Manav Suthar, trapping his counterpart for 18, and then got Mohammed Siraj caught in front of his pads for three. Jayasuriya bowled a marathon spell and finished with figures of 42-7-132-2.

• Rishabh Pant eclipsed MS Dhoni for most runs by an Indian wicketkeeper in away Tests.
• Rishabh Pant surpassed Shubman Gill in the list of top run-getters for India in World Test Championship.
• Dhruv Jurel's 115* is the highest score by an Indian batting no. 7 or below on Sri Lankan soil. It is also the fourth highest by any batter at that position.
