Sky’s Rickea Jackson done for season with torn ACL

Chicago Sky forward Rickea Jackson will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a torn left ACL, the team announced Tuesday.

The injury occurred during Sunday’s 86-79 win over the Minnesota Lynx at Target Center. Jackson went down in the first half and remained on the floor for an extended period before eventually leaving under her own power.

According to the team announcement, Jackson suffered the injury Sunday and will now begin the recovery process after an impressive start to her first season in Chicago, per a post by ESPN’s Alexa Philippou on X, formerly Twitter.

“We’re devastated that Rickea suffered this injury, but we are confident she will make a full recovery,” Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca said, per Philippou. “Rickea was playing at an All-Star and All-Defensive level early in the season. We are certain she was primed for a career year. Our world-class medical staff will work hard with Rickea, who is one of the toughest players in the league, to get her back on the court.”

Jackson, 25, was acquired by the Sky from the Los Angeles Sparks during the offseason and quickly emerged as one of Chicago’s top offensive players. Prior to her injury, she was averaging 18 points, 4.8 rebounds and two assists per game.

Before exiting against Minnesota, Jackson recorded six points on 3-for-6 shooting with one rebound and one block in 11 minutes.

Despite losing Jackson early, Chicago completed the comeback win behind rookie Gabriel Jaquez, who led the team with 20 points and eight rebounds in 32 minutes.

Chicago will now move forward without its leading scorer for the remainder of the season.
