Skip Bayless blows up Lu Dort’s desire to retire with Thunder
NBA analyst and Oklahoma City native Skip Bayless responded to Oklahoma City Thunder veteran Lu Dort’s desire to spend his entire career with the only NBA team he’s ever played for. After the Thunder lost Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals to the San Antonio Spurs, many believe that Dort’s days with the Thunder are numbered, and Bayless is no different.
Ahead of a critical offseason for the Thunder, Bayless says there’s a great chance Dort will be playing for a new team during the 2026-27 season, he said, per Gil’s Arena.
“Dort said yesterday he wants to retire a Thunder, and it ain’t happening,” Bayless said. “I’m going to guess he’s not a Thunder next year.”

Dort, who was named to the All-Defensive First Team this season, has a team option for 2026-27, worth $18 million.
Latest reports surrounding Chet Holmgren future with Thunder

Thunder All-Star Chet Holmgren has been the subject of rumors of late, solely based on his four-point dud in Game 7’s season-ending loss to the Spurs in the Western Conference Finals. As for the Thunder front office’s approach to this summer, trading Holmgren is most likely not in the cards, as ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel noted.
“The easy answer, and one some around the league have suggested, is to trade the 24-year-old All-Defensive big man while he still has value at the start of his mega contract. Perhaps Holmgren’s long-term future will come up as a minor talking point for Presti and other high-ranking front-office members in Oklahoma City this offseason, but the Thunder are by no means looking to move him this summer, two sources close to the organization told ClutchPoints on Monday,” Siegel said.
As for Thunder players on expiring deals, such as Lu Dort, Isaiah Hartenstein, and Kenrich Williams, the front office will have to make some difficult decisions ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
