Shedeur Sanders apologizes over outburst to Deshaun Watson question as Deion bans phones at Colorado practice

Sanders senior, and junior, are never far from the headlines and as both close in on the regular seasons, that has been the case again this week

For Shedeur, it was a classy gesture in the middle of a clearly intense quarterback battle with Deshaun Watson – for Colorado HC Deion, it was imposing a phone ban at Buffaloes training camp.

It’s been the story of the offseason, young and inexperienced versus the veteran with a injury history, and the starting gun was fired when new coach declared an open competition.

Watson will start their pre-season opener against the Chicago Bears, giving a good indication as to how to Monken is feeling.

He has made no secret of annoyance at the narrative around the battle, and Shedeur was added to that list after the news broke.

In his first media conference of camp, Sanders addressed the media in Cleveland and he got frustrated with a question and short with the reporter who asked it.

“Next question. I answered this question 1,000 times,” Sanders snapped after being asked about Deshaun.

After Cleveland’s final practice on Thursday, Shedeur wanted to make sure the air was clear ahead of pre-season.

“How’s everybody doing? Good, good. First, I want to apologize for how things was last time I came up here before ya’ll,” Sanders said.

“I dislike when it’s a lot of separation. When something gets between the team and people get painted a certain way and all this different type of stuff.

“So that’s where I get frustrated, and I shut down, because it just doesn’t help us win.

“I feel drained when I express myself to people and places and or cameras when it’s not perceived and taken the right way, or like we’re trying to divide the team or anything like that.

“I was trying to preserve my energy from going in depth with a lot of things.”

Deion bans media from Colorado Buffaloes practice

Shedeur hasn’t had the best rapport with the media, so the fact he is clearly trying to improve their relationship is a good sign for his claim to be named starter.

He drew criticizm from Rex Ryan for ‘running his mouth’ and once did a muted press conference, just nodding yes or no to questions posed.

His father, Pro Football Hall-of-Famer Deion Sanders, is enduring his own battle with the media as Colorado Buffaloes head coach.

After a 3-9 campaign in 2025, Deion is making a clear statement to members of the media.

The Colorado coach held an open practice for the first time for both fans and media members.

However, those reporters in attendance had to turn in their phones according to The Athletic, and they were also barred from reporting anything they saw at the practice.

‘Nothing observed at practice may be reported, published, posted, broadcast or otherwise shared in any form, on any platform, at any time,” an email from Colorado University obtained by The Athletic said.

‘If you are uncertain whether something is reportable, the answer is that it is not.’
