Former Cowboys QB issues desperate plea to Jerry Jones after Super Bowl ring is stolen

Bernie Kosar is one of the best quarterbacks in Cleveland Browns history.

But the former No. 1 overall pick of the 1985 NFL Supplemental Draft has a special request for Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

Kosar, 62, played in 126 games during his 12-year pro career, completing 59.3 percent of his passes and throwing 124 touchdowns.

He was at his best with the Browns in 1986 when Cleveland went 12-4, then Kosar made the Pro Bowl and finished third in NFL Offensive Player of the Year voting in ’87.

But it was a one-year stint with the Cowboys in 1993 that still sticks with Kosar more than 30 years later.

He was part of a Dallas team that featured future Pro Football Hall of Famers Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin.

Kosar also won his first and only Super Bowl, backing up Aikman and taking the field in Super Bowl XXVIII during the Cowboys’ 30-13 victory over the Buffalo Bills.

Some players ensure that their Super Bowl rings are preserved in special cases or safe boxes in their homes.

But Kosar can’t find his prized memento and he called out to Jones for help in locating the lost proof that he won the biggest annual game in the sports world.

“I lost it, so I can’t wear it,” Kosar said on the Sage Steele Show.

“And Jerry, I’m going to be calling you, because it got stolen. I’m going to be calling you for another one, bro. So, please, help me out again.”

It’s unclear what exactly happened to Kosar’s Super Bowl ring from the 1993 NFL season.

The Cowboys went 12-4 and won the NFC East with Jimmy Johnson as head coach, Norv Turner as offensive coordinator and Butch Davis as defensive coordinator.

Kosar wasn’t just a clipboard-holding backup, either.

He played in four games (one start) and completed 36-of-63 passes for 410 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions while posting a 92.7 passer rating.

Kosar was even more important during the 1993 postseason, passing for 83 yards and a key TD that helped Dallas return to the big game.

The Cowboys have five Super Bowl trophies in their 67-year history and are the highest-valued sports franchise in the world.

Jones has three Super Bowl rings as the team’s owner and has been dreaming of another one since 1995.

Kosar is hoping that Uncle Jerry can help him find another ring in 2026.
