Sharks’ Macklin Celebrini gets strong Sidney Crosby comparison from shared agent

Despite overcoming many expectations, the San Jose Sharks narrowly missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Macklin Celebrini was a major pivot point in their success. Now, his agent, Pat Brisson, who also manages Sidney Crosby, has compared the two, according to a video posted on X by NHL Media.

Brisson lamented over the season Celebrini had and noted that he was not surprised. Additionally, he credited the impact he has already had on the game. Brisson talked about how Celebrini treats people on and off the ice, and compared that to Crosby, especially with the work ethic.

Celebrini broke a Sharks’ franchise record, finishing with 45 goals and 115 overall total points, shattering expectations in his second year in the NHL. It was a major step up from his rookie season when he scored 25 goals and 63 total points. Compared to Crosby’s rookie season, when the veteran star had 29 goals and 74 total points before nabbing 33 goals and 91 points in his second season.

Celebrini’s play lifted the Sharks up to a 39-35-8 record and 86 total points, just four short of the Los Angeles Kings for the final wildcard spot. That was a major jump from 20-50-12 and 52 total points, which was where they stood in the 2024-25 season.

People have compared Celebrini to Crosby and Wayne Gretzky before. His impact on the Sharks has been excellent, as they have set themselves up for a really bright future. If the Sharks can keep building, they will become a dangerous threat, and Celebrini will be the biggest instigator of that turnaround. While the Sharks barely missed the playoffs, there will be a high likelihood they may earn a spot next season as long as Celebrini is controlling the puck and making magic happen on the ice.
