Seahawks’ 6-foot-5 weapon shifts to new position in intriguing move
The Seattle Seahawks have quickly reestablished themselves as a model organization under head coach Mike Macdonald, but maintaining elite status will be incredibly challenging. The Super Bowl 60 champions reside in the tortuous NFC West and will face a first-place schedule during the 2026-27 campaign. They also lost some key players in free agency, so this franchise may have to think outside the box if it is going to contend for another title.
Macdonald and the Seahawks are once again looking to add ingenuity to their defense, as they prepare to shift 2025 undrafted wide receiver Tyrone Broden to cornerback, per The 33rd team’s Ari Meirov. The former Arkansas and Bowling Green talent stands at 6-foot-5, 194 pounds and ran a 4.37 in the 40-yard dash. If this transition is successful, Seattle could have a lethal weapon in the secondary.
The Seahawks discombobulated opposing offenses, including the AFC-winning New England Patriots, by implementing complex and aggressive defensive schemes. A terrific athlete like Broden could fit nicely in that system, but switching positions could be taxing.
The 25-year-old totaled 104 receptions for 1,505 yards and 16 touchdowns in 57 games in college. He struggled to hold onto the ball, however, and was obviously deemed too big of a risk. The Seahawks swooped in, but they were unable to find a place for him on the NFL roster. Perhaps he can earn playing time on the defensive side of the ball.
Tariq Woolen signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency, leaving a potential void at cornerback. Seattle has brought in reinforcements, as the team tries to figure out how to keep a deep secondary heading into next season. Tyrone Broden intends to do his part and ignite his NFL career.
Some players have to reinvent themselves in order to survive the cruelties of this sport, but if such a process has to be explored, the home of the reigning Super Bowl champs is probably a good test site.
