Ryan Coleman-Williams’ dropped Alabama football passes draw ‘yips’ claim

With the Alabama football team clashing with East Carolina to open the 2026 season in Week 1, the program is off to a dominant 38-7 lead at halftime, showing that the Crimson Tide are here to stay. As the Alabama football program boasts some top prospects for the NFL, one has seen an up-and-down first half in the form of wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams.

There’s no denying Coleman-Williams’ talent, shown to be a massive deep threat with the Crimson Tide, but one aspect that haunted him was his drops, leading all FBS receivers with 13 of them and having the highest drop rate at 13.6 percent.

Coleman-Williams would have two bad drops in the first half of the contest against East Carolina, starting with under six minutes left in the first quarter, when he wouldn’t corral it in, despite the perfect pass from quarterback Keelon Russell. The second happened in the end zone, as Coleman-Williams couldn’t get a hold of the ball, with Adam Kramer saying that the junior pass-catcher has the “football yips.”

“Ryan Coleman-Williams has the football yips. He can’t catch. Not sure I’ve ever seen anything like it,” Kramer wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Alabama football’s Ryan Coleman-Williams also had a great first half

On the other hand, Coleman-Williams has definitely redeemed himself, as he made some tough catches throughout the first half, leading to finishing with four receptions for 104 yards. On pace for over 200 yards, there’s no denying that it was an inconsistent half for Coleman-Williams, as his goal is to limit the drops and keep making an impact on the field.

At any rate, it remains to be seen if Coleman-Williams will continue to have drop issues this season with the Alabama football team, as there’s no doubt that the Crimson Tide could use his talents in the offense. With the team on the path to a win in Week 1, Coleman-Williams looks to improve in Week 2 when the program takes on the University of Kentucky on Saturday, Sept. 12.
