Royals’ difficult season gets even worse with Maikel Garcia injury

The Kansas City Royals are getting some tough injury news. Infielder Maikel Garcia is hobbled with an elbow injury. It is the latest development in what has been a very difficult start to the season for the Royals.

“Maikel Garcia left today’s game with right elbow soreness, the Royals said,” MLB.com reported on X, formerly Twitter.

The Royals lost to the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday, by a 8-6 score. Kansas City is now 8-17 on the season. The club is last in the American League Central, with nine losses in the last 10 games.

Royals fans have been frustrated with the team’s slow start. Kansas City was booed by home fans during the Orioles series, after losing to Baltimore on Monday.

Now, things are even more difficult with Garcia hurt. The Royals need the slugger back as soon as possible.

“Kansas City’s leadoff hitter is batting .265 with a .724 OPS through 25 games. He had been hitting well previously in this series, notching three hits on Monday followed by an RBI single with two runs scored in Tuesday’s victory,” MLB.com reported.

Garcia has played in Kansas City since the 2022 season. He has 29 career home runs and 194 RBIs. The infielder has 10 RBIs on the season.

While the team was dealt some tough news with the Garcia injury, Kansas City did get some good news Wednesday. The Royals announced they entered into a partnership with Hallmark Cards to build a new stadium in the city.

The Royals have Thursday off, before starting a series with the L.A. Angels on Friday. Time will tell if Garcia will be back in the lineup for that game.
