Rob Gronkowski ‘needed’ Spurs-Thunder to reach Game 7, and he got his wish

With the latest win by the San Antonio Spurs over the Oklahoma City Thunder, Game 7 will be required to determine the New York Knicks’ NBA Finals opponent, and former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski is loving it.

Even before tip-off, Gronk was making his rooting intentions clear. He thought the Spurs “need to win tonight” because “the people need to see a Game 7 of our entertainment!!!”

He got his wish. San Antonio won Game 6 in dominant fashion by 27 points over OKC. The game was relatively close heading into halftime (60-53) before the Spurs pulled away in the second half.

Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals (WCF) will take place on Saturday, May 30. The winner will then have three days off before the NBA Finals begin on Wednesday, June 3.

The Knicks will be waiting for their opponent. They swept the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals, so they haven’t had to play a game since Monday, May 25.

Luckily for the Western Conference teams, whoever wins will have home-court advantage in the Finals. The Thunder (64-18) and the Spurs (62-20) both had better records than the Knicks (53-29).

To no one’s surprise, Victor Wembanyama took over Game 6. He scored 28 points and logged 10 rebounds. Wemby was even efficient on three-pointers, making four of his nine attempts.

Like him or not, Wemby has been stepping up when it’s most important. He is averaging 28.2 points per game against the Thunder, the most he’s averaged in a series this postseason, and 11.5 rebounds. He has scored over 20 in all six contests so far.

Meanwhile, the reigning two-time NBA MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, was held in check, only scoring 15 points while making 33% (6-18) of his shots. He was also 0-5 from downtown, a common theme on OKC in Game 6. Five players who attempted at least one three-pointer didn’t hit a single one.
