Rival exec loves sneaky good 49ers trade with Cowboys

The San Francisco 49ers are ready to go on a revenge tour in 2026. San Francisco made the most of a bad situation in 2025, getting a surprising playoff victory despite dealing with several major injuries. Now the 49ers have added plenty of new talent and are ready to fight their way back to the Super Bowl once again.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler broke down the biggest moves of the offseason in his latest article. He talked to league executives, coachces, and scouts about those moves.

One rival NFC executive praised San Francisco for acquiring DT Osa Odighizuwa for just a third-round pick earlier this offseason.

“Good player, perfect scheme fit, good pricing, excellent contract to inherit,” an NFC executive said.

The Cowboys signed Odighizuwa to a four-year extension worth $80 million during the 2025 offseason. But he became expendable after Dallas decided to completely overhaul their entire defensive unit. San Francisco got a great deal on him as a result.

Odighizuwa is a talented defensive tackle who brings a lot to the table. He is an iron man, missing just one game during his five-year NFL career. Odighizuwa is a stout defender against the run and has enough juice to collapse the pocket on passing plays too. He only has 17 career sacks, but he excels at simply creating pressure in the pocket.

The 49ers are expected to use Odighizuwa as a starting defensive end next to C.J. West and nose tackle Alfred Collins. He should bring some stability to the interior of San Francisco’s d-line, freeing up space for Nick Bosa and friends to make plays.

It will be fascinating to see how well Odighizuwa fits in San Francisco’s defense this fall. If he thrives, he could be a steal for only costing a third-round pick.
