RIP to old Highmark Stadium, which is getting demolished ‘piece by piece’

The Buffalo Bills will be under a lot of pressure to succeed during the 2026 NFL season. Buffalo’s regular season schedule has been revealed, showing a tough path back to the playoffs. Perhaps the Bills will get a boost this fall from playing in their brand new stadium.

Buffalo is now in the process of tearing down their old stadium now that their new venue should be ready for the 2026 season, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“With Buffalo’s new Highmark Stadium on track to be ready for the upcoming season, the Bills have begun demolishing their old stadium, piece by piece, in a process that is likely to last into 2027,” Schefter posted on Sunday.

The Bills originally opened Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York in 1973. It was only the second stadium in Bills franchise history, replacing War Memorial Stadium (1960-72).

Buffalo will play in the brand new Highmark Stadium during the 2026 season.

They will christen their new stadium in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football. Bills fans will have a national audience to see their first game in their new stadium. Buffalo will also face off in an exciting game against Detroit, which produced plenty of fireworks the last time the two teams played each other.

Understandably, tickets to that game are already incredibly pricey. Schefter reported on May 12th that the get-in price for the opening night at Highmark Stadium costs $663.

One of the biggest improvements at the new Highmark Stadium is a new design that will limit the wind’s impact on the game. Bills fans still get to enjoy an outdoor stadium, but without all of the downsides of an open air stadium.

It will be exciting to see what Buffalo’s new stadium looks like once the snow begins to fall later this winter.
