Rick Brunson’s savage 4-word message to Mark Cuban after Knicks NBA championship

It goes without saying that Jalen Brunson has a close relationship with his father, Rick. He was there to see his son become the hero of New York, leading the Knicks to their first NBA championship since 1973.

As both continue to savor the moment, Rick is making sure that former Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban doesn’t forget, per Tom Kludt of New York Magazine.

It stems back to 2022, when the Mavericks let Brunson go. They had a chance to sign him to a four-year, $55.5 million deal. However, things went south during negotiations when Rick Brunson got involved. Furthermore, Jalen expressed interest in playing for the Knicks and being closer to family.

“We’ve got to figure out if Dallas wants him,” Rick said at the time. Then-owner Mark Cuban, meanwhile, complained that his negotiations with Jalen “went south when the parents got involved.”

Cuban contended that Dallas was never given a chance to provide a matching offer.

Immediately after the NBA Finals, Rick made sure Cuban got the word in the simplest way imaginable.

“Tell Mark [Cuban] thank you,” Rick said.

In July 2022, Jalen signed a four-year, $104 million deal with New York.

From there, Jalen was the focal point that led the Knicks to become a genuine contender. New York would make the playoffs from 2023 to 2026.

In the NBA Finals, Jalen averaged 32.6 points, 4.6 assists, and 4.2 rebounds over five games against the San Antonio Spurs. Along the way, he was rewarded with the NBA Finals MVP honors.

Dallas’ loss was New York’s gain.
