Rich Paul won’t ‘bully us’ on Anthony Davis trade, says Mavericks staffer

The Dallas Mavericks have seen their name run through the rumor mill over the past few weeks, primarily regarding big man Anthony Davis, who recently injured his hand. On Tuesday, Davis shot down reports from ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania that he would require surgery, which Charania later corrected, and it seems that the Mavericks are going full speed ahead on finding a new home for their disgruntled star.

Leading the charge on the Davis trade front has been Klutch Sports agent Rich Paul, who has never been shy about publicly leveraging to get his clients where he wants them to go, and recently, a Mavericks staffer hit back at Paul’s tactics.

“‘Rich Paul is not going to bully us.’ That is a direct quote from a member of the Mavericks organization. Another member of the Mavericks organization referring to Patrick Dumont, the Governor. ‘Patrick’s not going to sign off on a deal just to do a deal. Ownership doesn’t feel any pressure to do an AD deal,'” reported ESPN NBA insider Tim McMahon on The Hoop Collective podcast.

“Patrick has no problem going into next year and seeing with a healthy Kyrie and a healthy AD alongside Cooper Flagg and seeing what it looks like,” added another staffer.

The Mavericks have played this whole season without Kyrie Irving, who tore his ACL last March and is still recovering. Meanwhile, Flagg has showcased all of the attributes that made him the number one overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, giving Dallas a potential building block for the franchise should they eventually part ways with Davis.

Meanwhile, Davis’ continued injury concerns and slight drop in productivity when he’s on the court have lessened his trade value, as has the mammoth contract he will be expecting from wherever he ends up.

In any case, the Mavericks will next take the floor on Wednesday against the Denver Nuggets.
