Red Sox’s Jarren Duran reveals fan he flipped off told him to ‘kill himself’
Boston Red Sox star Jarren Duran was seen making an obscene gesture toward a fan during the team’s 6-0 loss to the Twins in Minnesota on Tuesday. After grounding out to second base, the broadcast caught Duran flipping off a fan while running back to the dugout. The outfielder explained what occurred after the game, via ESPN.
“Somebody just told me to kill myself,” Duran said. “I’m used to it at this point, you know? I mean, s**t happens. I mean, I’m going to flip somebody off if they say something to me, but it is what it is. I shouldn’t react like that, but that kind of stuff is still kind of triggering.”
Duran has been open about his struggles with his mental health in the past. Comments like the one Duran said the fan made are “triggering” for Duran given what he has dealt with in the past.
Duran was mentioned in trade rumors this past offseason. The Red Sox ultimately decided to hold onto the 2024 All-Star. So far in 2026, Duran is hitting .182/.274/.291 across 62 plate appearances. During his All-Star 2024 campaign, Duran hit .285/.342/.492 in 160 games played.
The Red Sox fell to 6-11 overall as a result of the loss on Tuesday to the Twins. Boston is in last place in the American League East standings. The ball club is hoping to bounce back soon, as they had high expectations heading into this season.
The Red Sox will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday afternoon at 1:40 PM EST in Minnesota.
