Red Sox lose pitcher to injured list before Braves game
The Boston Red Sox are set to play the Atlanta Braves on Thursday in the final contest of a three-game series. The Red Sox are trying to compete despite an underwhelming start to the season. It has been a difficult start for the Red Sox to say the least, and Boston received an unfortunate injury update on Thursday. Right-handed pitcher Garrett Whitlock was placed on the 15-day injured list due to left knee inflammation, the team announced. Left-handed pitcher Tyler Samaniego was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
Whitlock, 29 has pitched to a 3.20 ERA across 20 appearances out of the bullpen. In 2025, he turned in a strong 2.25 ERA in 62 outings. Whitlock has been an effective pitcher out of the bullpen to say the least. It remains to be seen how much time the right-handed pitcher will miss due to the injury.
The Red Sox are currently 23-31 so far during the ’26 campaign. They are in last place in the American League East standings at the moment. Losing Whitlock to the injured list is obviously far from ideal. Boston will attempt to turn the season around despite his injury absence.
The Red Sox and Braves series is tied 1-1 right now. Atlanta earned a victory on Tuesday by a final score of 7-6, while Boston jumped back into the win column with a 8-0 win on Wednesday. The Red Sox have challenged the best team in baseball, and they can clinch a series victory on Thursday.
First pitch for Thursday afternoon’s game is scheduled for 4:10 PM EST.
