Rangers outfielder Brandon Nimmo gives Astros fan the ball from the Yordan Alvarez robbed homer

The Texas Rangers avoided the series sweep at the hands of the Houston Astros over the weekend. The Rangers have been in a slump as of late, and had scored just one run in the first two games of the series. One run would have been enough on Sunday, as the Rangers won the game 8-0.

Still, the Rangers almost needed more, but Brandon Nimmo robbed Yordan Alvarez of a home run. As Nimmo scaled the wall to rob Alvarez, an Astros fan made sure to avoid fan interference, leaning back to let Nimmo make the grab. Nimmo made sure the fan not only got the ball, but an extra gift, according to Jomboy Media.

Nimmo went back out innings later with a signed ball for the fan that said: “Thanks 4 letting me go after it!” The fan also posted a picture of the ball on Instagram.

As a 31-year Houston Astros season ticket holder and lifelong fan, there was no way I was reaching over that wall and interfering with Brandon Nimmo trying to catch Yordan Alvarez’s solo homer. My brother in heaven knew the rules, and his friend Stevey knows the rules too. A few innings later, Brandon Nimmo came back out and handed us signed baseballs, including one that said, “Thanks 4 Letting Me Go After It!” That’s baseball respect right there. I was not expecting 2 balls. Loyal Astros fan always… but also loyal to the game itself. Besides, when Yordan sends one into orbit, you just sit back, admire the moonshot,” the fan posted as a caption with the signed ball.

While the Astros are struggling, sitting at 19-29 and in fourth place in the AL West, Alvarez is still hitting well. He is hitting .316 with 15 home runs and 31 RBIs on the year. The Astros open a three-game series with the Minnesota Twins on Monday. Meanwhile, the Rangers head to Colorado for the first game of their three-game set with the Colorado Rockies on Monday.
