Quinn Hughes’ response to Wild’s powerplay struggles after Game 3 loss

One of the best parts of Quinn Hughes’ game and the reason he is so valuable to the Minnesota Wild is how he can affect a game offensively from the back end, whether at even strength or on the powerplay. The Wild were just 1-for-7 on the powerplay in their Game 3 loss to the Dallas Stars, including two opportunities to close the deal in overtime. Despite the struggles, Hughes remained optimistic, according to NHL.com’s Mike Morreale.

“You just have to keep going,” Hughes said. “You never know when you’re going to get hot on the power play. It could be the next game or the game after that. Whether we were 4-for-4 on the power play or 0-for-whatever we were (in Game 3), it doesn’t change how we have to approach Game 4 because we’re going to need (the power play). We had our looks, and they just didn’t go.”

No one said it would be easy for the Wild. In a competitive Central Division, Minnesota was going to have to go through two legitimate Stanley Cup contenders in the Stars and Colorado Avalanche (2-0 series lead over the Los Angeles Kings) before even reaching the Western Conference Final.

“I mean, we’re going to play with urgency,” Quinn Hughes said. “I think we’ve played three really good playoff games so far. I like our game, and not for one second am I questioning how the next game’s going to go.”

The Wild dominated Game 1, prompting some to wonder if it would be a quick series. However, the Wild now face a must-win Game 4 on home ice.
