Promoted EFL club release eight players including defender who made 70 appearances for Arsenal

Bromley have confirmed that Carl Jenkinson has left the club following promotion to League One this season.

Jenkinson, who made 70 appearances in eight years for Arsenal, is now going to be a free agent this summer.

The 34-year-old joined the now League One side when they had just been promoted into the Football League in 2024.

He made a total of 18 appearances for the club, including 16 in League Two, one in the FA Cup and one in the EFL Trophy.

But the right-back’s spell at Bromley is now over as they have opted not to hand him a new contract to keep him for another year.

Another seven players have also left the club with their deals up.

Byron Webster, Brooklyn Ilunga, Sam Long, Marcus Dinanga, Sam German, Frankie Moralee and Tade Ibrahim have all gone.

A second ex-Arsenal defender in Zech Medley is also departing, along with Jenkinson, as he returns to parent club Fleetwood Town.

They were not lucky enough to be among those who have received an extension heading into their League One campaign.

Grant Smith, Ashley Charles, Omar Sowunmi, Corey Whitely and Marcus Ifill have all had options in their contracts triggered.

Dillon Addai, George Evans and Freddie Taylor are staying too.

Meanwhile, Jude Arthurs and Idris Odutayo are in talks over signing new deals with Bromley as things stand.

Jenkinson’s career so far

So, Jenkinson is going to be on the lookout for a new club this summer if he decides to continue his playing career.

He started off at Charlton in 2010 before joining Arsenal in 2011 with the full-back making the Emirates Stadium his home for eight years.

His spell with the Gunners saw him make 70 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal and assisting five.

Jenkinson also spent time on loan at West Ham and Birmingham before signing for Nottingham Forest in 2019.

Following three years at the City Ground, he then made a major change, heading to Australia to play for Melbourne City and Newcastle Jets across a two-year stint Down Under.

He returned from Aussie football in 2024 to join Bromley, and after helping them achieve promotion, he has now moved on.

Missing out on a special year

Jenkinson leaves Bromley following a history-making campaign.

The Ravens have never played in League One before, but they will be doing so next season after achieving promotion.

Andy Woodman’s side lifted the title with 87 points after a remarkable campaign that included 24 wins.

It was only two years ago, when Jenkinson joined, that they played in the EFL for the first time in their history.

But now they’re heading into the third tier next term.
