Pistons’ Jalen Duren gets $287.1 million update after All-NBA Team reveal
On Sunday, the NBA announced which 15 players made the three All-NBA teams. And for the Detroit Pistons, this announcement was a validation of sorts for the excellent 2025-26 season they had despite it coming to an end in the second round of the playoffs against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Not only did Cade Cunningham make it to the first team, his pick-and-roll partner, Jalen Duren, also received a third-team nod.
Duren averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game this past season, as he continued to blossom for the Pistons under head coach JB Bickerstaff. Never mind the fact that Duren struggled in the 2026 NBA playoffs; he was as instrumental as it gets for the Pistons in their 60-win campaign.
However, the Pistons now have a conundrum to resolve. Duren, after receiving a third-team All-NBA nod, is now eligible for a five-year supermax contract that Spotrac Keith’s Smith is projecting to be worth $287.1 million (30 percent of the salary cap).
After Duren shrunk in the playoffs, one would think that the Pistons would be very wary of committing that much money to him. However, it can be easy to forget that Duren is only 22 years of age, and this past postseason was only his second taste of the playoffs in his brief career.
Smith pointed out that he believes that Duren and the Pistons should come to an agreement on a contract worth around a total of $185 million over five years, for an average annual value of $37 million. That appears to be fair value for a young, improving big man who’s a regular season machine.
This should be the most pressing matter for the Pistons this offseason. Once they resolve this Duren contract situation, they will have to look for ways to improve the roster around him and Cunningham as they aim to get over the hump in 2027.
