Pirates’ Jared Jones receives crucial injury update before Reds clash
The Pittsburgh Pirates may be in last place in the National League Central standings at the moment, but the team looks like it could compete this year. The NL Central has performed better than expected overall, and the Pirates are right at the .500 mark with a 16-16 record heading into Friday night’s game against the first place Cincinnati Reds. Starting pitcher Jared Jones will give the team a boost once he returns from his elbow surgery recovery. Pirates manager Don Kelly shared an update on Jones’ injury recovery on Friday, via Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
“Jared Jones is at PNC Park. He’ll throw a bullpen tomorrow, Don Kelly said. His next rehab start will be on Tuesday in Indianapolis. Kelly said Jones would likely pitch in Altoona, too, before his MLB return,” Beazley reported on Friday.
Jones, 24, has recently dealt with injury trouble, as his most recent MLB appearance was his rookie season in 2024. Jones and Paul Skenes both displayed signs of potential that year, as Skenes won the National League Rookie of the Year Award while Jones also performed at a respectable level.
Jones finished the year with a 4.14 ERA, but he did limit opponents to a .232 batting average. He also recorded 132 strikeouts in his 121.2 innings of work. He made 22 starts, and those are still his only 22 outings at the big league level.
That could change sooner rather than later though as Jones continues to work his way back from injury. The Pirates will continue to monitor and provide updates on Jared Jones’ injury status as they are made available.
