Padres pull off mind-blowing Coors Field feat not seen in 20 years

The San Diego Padres continued a strong season with a win on Tuesday at Coors Field, over the Colorado Rockies. San Diego pulled off something the stadium hasn’t seen in 20 years.

“The Padres are the first visiting team to win a game 1-0 at Coors Field since 2006!” MLB posted to X, formerly Twitter.

Clearly, it isn’t often for that stadium to see low scoring games, with the visiting team winning by just a run.

“The 12th 1-0 game in Coors Field history!” MLB.com reporter Sarah Langs posted to X about Tuesday’s contest.

With the win on Tuesday, San Diego improved to 16-7 on the season. The Padres are again pushing the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West. Colorado dropped to 9-15 on the campaign with the loss.

Padres are having another great season

San Diego has wins now in nine of their last 10 games. The team’s only run on Tuesday came thanks to Manny Machado, who posted an RBI in the sixth.

The club also got an excellent performance from starting pitcher Randy Vasquez. He shut out the Rockies after throwing for seven innings. He finished the game with five strikeouts.

“It was fantastic,” Padres manager Craig Stammen said of Vásquez’s performance, per MLB.com. “It’s hard to pitch like that at Coors Field. He did a tremendous job of throwing strikes. Kept his pitch count down. Got a lot of swing-and-miss. Just an outstanding outing from Randy.”

Vasquez said he felt good on the mound all night. He allowed just three hits in his outing, to earn his second victory of the campaign.

“I was just trusting my game plan and executing my pitches,” Vásquez said through the team interpreter. “I knew that they swing early in the at-bat, so I just tried to locate my pitches.”

The Padres look for another victory when they play Colorado again Wednesday.
