Padres outfielder Ramon Laureano’s ‘big stick’ mic drop after getting ‘shorter’ by 2 inches
Through the early going of the 2026 season, outfielder Ramon Laureano has been one of the San Diego Padres’ best players. That is despite the fact he is now technically two inches shorter.
Due to MLB’s new ABS system, the Padres had to be precise on Laureano’s measurement. He was originally listed at 5-foot-11, but now comes in at 5-foot-9. Still, Laureano doesn’t mind the decrease. Especially because he knows it hasn’t affected his bat, via Dennis Lin of The Athletic.
“It’s interesting to see how that is a little bit lower,” Laureano said. “Big stick still bigger, though. That’s good.”
Through his first 20 games in 2026, Laureano is hitting .273 with four home runs, 15 RBIs and three stolen bases. The outfielder leads San Diego in home runs and RBIs and ranks third in both batting average and stolen bases. Laureano has played a big role in the Padres’ 15-7 start.
Manager Craig Stammen has taken notice of the breakout. After beginning the season batting seventh, Laureano has now moved up into the top spot of the lineup. If he continues producing, it seems likely he’ll remain there.
It’s not like Laureano’s hot start came out of nowhere. He hit 24 home runs and 76 RBIs over 132 games between the Padres and Baltimore Orioles in 2025. Furthermore, he is a career .254 hitter with 110 home runs, 343 RBIs an 75 stolen bases over his nine-year career.
San Diego will be riding the hot hand as long as they can. Laureano has clearly adjusted well to his new strike zone. He has no plans for his power surge to cool off anytime soon.
