Packers Move Up In Latest Power Rankings

The Green Bay Packers took care of business against a divisional rival on Sunday. It wasn’t a pretty display at all times, but it was enough to get the job done.
With that in mind, Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report gave Matt LaFleur’s team their flowers. In his latest weekly power rankings, he moved the Packers a couple of spots, from No. 9 to No. 7:
“The Green Bay Packers aren’t an easy team to get a bead on. This is a team that boatraced the Detroit Lions at Lambeau in Week 1, only to lose to the Cleveland Clowns and Carolina Panthers in the same stadium. But a Packers defense that has shown flashes of dominance ruled the second half, and in the end the Pack won the first of three straight NFC North games headed into a brutal five-game stretch that is going to make or break their season, with a Turkey Day tilt in Motown kicking it off. If you know how that’s going to play out, let me know. Because this team could peel off four wins and vie for the NFC North crown or lose four of five and miss the postseason and neither would surprise me,” Davenport wrote.
This makes perfect sense right now. While they haven’t been as good as expected this season, it’s hard to argue with the fact that they’re still a top-10 outfit in the National Football League.
The problem with the Packers is that, often, they tend to play down to their opposition’s level. With a few exceptions, they’re usually better against winning and contending teams.
That’s not something they can afford when they’re trying to win one of the most competitive and stacked divisions in all of football. That’s also why beating a divisional opponent was so crucial on Sunday.
Now, the Packers will look to make it 2-0 against Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions this season. That will be easier said than done, especially given that they will be on the road and in a short week.
That Thanksgiving matchup with the Lions will have some huge playoff implications. And with the Chicago Bears also riding high and continuing to win football games, the Packers will have to be much better than they were last month if they want to live up to their status as the odds-on favorite to win the NFC North this season.
