Packers claim 2 players off waivers

After being ousted in the Wild Card Round, the Green Bay Packers will spend their offseason looking to improve their roster anyway they can. Green Bay will hope their two latest additions can add a spark.

The Packers have claimed defensive back MJ Devonshire and tight end Luke Lachey off of waivers from the Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans respectively, via Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. Both will now battle for an opportunity to make the roster.

Devonshire was originally a seventh-round draft pick by the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024. He was eventually waived in 2025 and spent time with the Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens before signing onto the Bills’ practice squad. However, the cornerback has yet to record a stat at the NFL level.

The Texans selected Lachey in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, with the third-to-last pick of the entire draft. Like Devonshire, he never made it into a game with his original NFL team.

Still, for the Packers to pick both up, they must see something in the former seventh-rounders. When it comes to cornerbacks, Green Bay did finish the 2025 season ranked 11th in pass defense, allowing 194.1. Devonshire will need to make quite an impression to earn his spot. At tight end, Tucker Kraft’s injury may open up some opportunities. But Lachey will need to make a mammoth climb up the depth chart to do so.

The Packers are sure to continue tinkering with their roster as they prepare for their 2026 campaign. Devonshire and Lachey will join everyone else in Green bay in trying to help the franchise reclaim the NFC North.
