Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton retires from ’82-0′ challenge after absurd result
A new basketball challenge has taken over NBA fans on social media with the release of 82-0.com — a game in which users try to put together the best five-man lineup they can to try and build a team that could go undefeated over the course of 82 games. Even Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton is trying his hand at this novel NBA craze.
Haliburton, however, could not wrap his head around the fact that he somehow couldn’t put together a five-man crew that could go 82-0 according to the website’s simulations.
The website simulates the record of the team a user puts together by crunching their average numbers during a certain era with a specific team, and Haliburton must have thought he’d go undefeated when he lucked into a lineup consisting of LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Moses Malone.

Alas, the stats that count for the purposes of the game depend on the team and the era that the user rolled. In the Pacers star’s case, he did luck into getting the prime years for James, Jordan, Bird, and Malone. However, the Bryant era selection must have undone his efforts.
Bryant was still at the top of his game to start the decade, but he was never the same ever since he ruptured his Achilles in 2013. That is the only conceivable reason as to why Haliburton failed to win the 82-0 challenge.
Perhaps it didn’t help that James’ 2000 years involved his rookie campaign, which is without a doubt one of the worst seasons of his professional career (understandably so). Even then, he was so brilliant for them as soon as his sophomore campaign that that should scarcely matter.
At the end of the day, winning the 82-0 challenge all boils down to luck. It can get frustrating to select someone in a certain position only to have someone better pop up as an option shortly after, but the game’s the game — and Haliburton is done playing it.
