Olympiacos vs Real Madrid predictions and betting tips – Blancos seek European rebound

Real Madrid missed out on the top eight of the Champions League league phase last season, and they are looking to avoid that mistake this time around.

Xabi Alonso’s side won their first three matches in this competition, but they were beaten by Liverpool earlier this month. Will Madrid get back on track against Olympiacos?

Olympiacos vs Real Madrid predictions

By their high standards, Real Madrid are going through a blip. After a 2-2 draw with Elche at the weekend, the Blancos have now gone three games without a win in all competitions.

The downturn started in the Champions League. Liverpool have generally been dismal in the last couple of months, but they delivered a dominant display when Madrid visited Anfield earlier this month.

Alexis Mac Allister’s strike on the hour was the difference between the two teams, but quite frankly Madrid could easily have lost by a wider margin.

They then failed to beat Rayo Vallecano in La Liga, drawing 0-0 immediately prior to the international break. And after Madrid took a point rather than three against Elche on Sunday, Barcelona are back within touching distance of their arch-rivals at the top of the table.

There is no need for alarm just yet. Madrid are first in La Liga and seventh in the Champions League. The Blancos are better placed now, both at home and abroad, than they were at the equivalent stage of last term – and all this with a new manager getting to grips with his squad.

Having said that, it is important that Madrid return to winning ways as quickly as possible. In La Liga, they will probably be second by the time they kick off against Girona on Sunday, with Barcelona hosting Alaves a day earlier.

In Europe, meanwhile, the 15-time kings of the continent must look to tighten their grip on a top-eight berth. Madrid had to go through the knockout phase play-offs in 2024/25, something they will be keen to avoid this time around.

With Manchester City set to visit the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in a fortnight’s time, Madrid could do with collecting maximum points against Olympiacos on matchday five.

Alonso attempted to play down talk of a downturn on Sunday, but he too recognised that there is room for improvement.

“It’s football,” he said after the Elche game, in which Madrid scored an 87th-minute equaliser through Jude Bellingham.

“After a good run, we’ve had several results we didn’t want. We know what we want; we have to keep pushing forward. We’re not happy; we always want to win. We can’t be. There are many games left, so we need to focus on the next one by analysing what we did today.”

Olympiacos vs Real Madrid betting tips

Olympiacos host Real Madrid in the Champions League – is this a foregone conclusion?

Tough game for Olympiacos

Olympiacos rank 31st out of 36 at the midway point of the league phase, but a two-point deficit to the play-off spots means they still have something to play for.

The home fans at the Karaiskakis Stadium will do their best to make life difficult for Real Madrid, but it is hard to see anything other than an away win here.

True, Madrid have not been at their best so far in November. They were outplayed by Liverpool, were flat against Rayo Vallecano, and were wasteful against Elche. But there is too much talent in the Madrid squad for this blip to last for too long.

Olympiacos have only scored two Champions League goals up to now, so a clean sheet is well within reach for Madrid.

Madrid’s attack to dominate

Real Madrid scored twice against Elche at the weekend but they really ought to have made the net bulge three or four times.

Bellingham’s return to full fitness has given Madrid another source of firepower in the final third, with the England international set to play behind split strikers in Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior on Wednesday.

With that sort of quality in the final third, Olympiacos’s defenders will have their hands full throughout this match.

Barcelona recently scored six goals against the Greek giants, and Madrid are capable of striking either side of the interval.

Mbappe to break deadlock

Mbappe is desperate to win the Champions League for the first time in his career, and Real Madrid will need him to keep scoring goals if they are to lift the trophy.

The France international has made a bright start to the season, notching 18 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions.

That tally includes four in the Champions League, where only Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen has outdone him.

Mbappe has not struck in any of his last three outings, however, so he will be keen to get his name back on the scoresheet on Wednesday. He can do so by drawing first blood for Madrid.
