OKC fans hit Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama with ‘flopper’ chants before free throw

Oklahoma City fans decided to be ironic with their chants toward Victor Wembanyama during the Thunder’s clash with the San Antonio Spurs in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals on Saturday night.

Going into the game, both teams are even at three games apiece. San Antonio won Games 1, 4 and 6 while Oklahoma City nabbed Games 2, 3 and 5. It’s officially a win or go home scenario for either side, fighting for a spot in the NBA Finals.

Wembanyama needed to deliver a big performance to give his team the best chance of winning, making big plays throughout the course of the game. He also had to absorb a lot of contact from opposing defenders, which often had him make intriguing reactions after the fouls. This prompted the opposing home crowd to taunt him with chants that referred to him exaggerating the contact.

How Victor Wembanyama, Spurs played against Thunder

Victor Wembanyama did not let the Thunder fans’ chants get to him in the second half. Instead, he went on to break their hearts and their team’s chances of repeating in championships after eliminating them with the Spurs winning Game 7.

Seven players scored in double-digits for San Antonio in the win, including Wembanyama. He produced a stat line of 22 points, seven rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block. He shot 7-of-15 from the field, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, and 5-of-7 from the free-throw line. Julian Champagnie came next with 20 points and six rebounds, Stephon Castle had 16 points and six assists, while De’Aaron Fox put up 15 points and five assists. Meanwhile, Dylan Harper provided 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Spurs will look forward to their journey in the NBA Finals, taking on the New York Knicks in a rematch from the 1999 Finals. Game 1 will take place in San Antonio on June 3 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
