Oilers’ Kris Knoblauch ‘not concerned’ about Connor McDavid amid Game 2 injury scare

It was almost code red for the Edmonton Oilers and their fans when Connor McDavid collided with teammate Mattias Ekholm and went down the tunnel with an injury during Wednesday night’s game. McDavid has played more hockey over the past 24 months than anyone else, and seeing him ailing is going to scare plenty of Oilers fans because of that. However, Kris Knoblauch doesn’t believe that there is anything to worry about moving forward, according to Ryan Rishaug via X, formerly Twitter.

“Knoblauch says he’s not concerned about McDavids availability or effectiveness moving forward based on the time he missed in game 2. Says Henrique is not going on the trip, but Dickinson may be available for game three. Said Dickinson was 50-50 in the morning for game 2,” Rishaug reported.

Despite McDavid returning to play the remainder of Game 2, the Oilers weren’t able to rally all the way for a comeback over the Anaheim Ducks. Edmonton managed to even the game at four late in the third period, but a Ducks goal from Cutter Gauthier with less than five minutes remaining in the third period evened the series at one.

The Oilers missed the depth presence of Dickinson and Henrique in this game. Josh Samanski did score in his return to the lineup, but both veterans bring an element that could help mitigate the Oilers’ defensive shortcomings. While it would’ve taken much more than this injury to keep Connor McDavid out of the lineup, and it was a foregone conclusion that he’d play, an extended absence of Dickinson and Henrique will be harmful to Edmonton’s chances.
