Oilers’ Connor McDavid hits Wayne Gretzky milestone that is just wildly absurd

The Edmonton Oilers are back in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and Connor McDavid has once again turned in an MVP-caliber performance. The Oilers superstar has clinched the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s points leader. However, the feat he accomplished on Thursday is truly otherworldly. And before him, it had only been accomplished by Wayne Gretzky.

McDavid dished out four assists in a dominating 6-1 victory on Thursday night. As a result, he has now recorded a point in every team win the Oilers have achieved this season. As mentioned, the only other player to achieve this feat is Gretzky, according to ESPN Insights. “The Great One” achieved this feat back in 1980-81.

McDavid is one of the most gifted playmakers in the NHL. He has helped Edmonton make the Stanley Cup Final in each of the last two seasons. Furthermore, he has scored 100+ points in each of the last six seasons.

The Oilers will have a new opponent in the first round of this year’s postseason, though. Edmonton had faced — and defeated — the Los Angeles Kings in each of the last four postseasons. This year, though, they will take on the upstart Anaheim Ducks.

Anaheim was in contention for the Pacific Division title for much of the season. However, they slipped late, and ended up finishing third in the division. As a result, Edmonton will have home ice advantage through the first round.

McDavid has had a major impact on the Oilers throughout his career. And he has recently turned up the heat in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Now, the team’s quest for a third straight Western Conference championship begins on Monday in Edmonton.
