Nuggets’ Jamal Murray flabbergasted by Timberwolves complaining about historic free throw parade

The Denver Nuggets took a solid 1-0 lead in their opening-round playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves with a 116-105 victory on Saturday. The dynamic duo of Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray led the charge, with Jokic recording a triple-double and Murray scoring a game-high 30 points.

Despite struggling with their shooting, most notably going just 1-for-17 from three-point range in the second half, their experience allowed Denver to maintain a lead that at one point extended to 15 points.

However, the post-game discussion quickly turned to the officiating. Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch expressed significant frustration, labeling Murray’s 16 free-throw attempts as a “head-scratcher.”

Finch’s confusion arose from Murray’s relatively poor shooting performance, as he finished 7-of-22 from the field, suggesting that the number of fouls called was skewed and heavily influenced the game’s outcome in favor of Denver.

In response to these complaints, Murray appeared genuinely surprised by the suggestion that the fouls were questionable.

After setting a franchise record by hitting all 16 of his free-throw attempts, the star guard defended the legitimacy of the calls. “I thought I got fouled on every single one of them,” Murray stated, via ESPN. “I don’t know what everybody’s talking about. [They were] real fouls.”

This impressive performance at the free-throw line was crucial in keeping the Nuggets afloat as their perimeter shooting faltered in the second half.

Murray attributed both his individual success and the team’s gritty win to the adrenaline and “butterflies” that come with the start of a playoff run.

Coming off a career-best regular season, where he averaged personal highs in points, rebounds, and assists, Murray’s composure remains vital to Denver’s title defense.

While the Timberwolves focus on the officiating, Murray and the Nuggets are concentrating on a historical trend: Denver has won six of its last seven series after securing a 1-0 lead.
