Notre Dame women’s basketball star Hannah Hidalgo makes huge decision for 2026-27 season

As Notre Dame women’s basketball star Hannah Hidalgo has impressed in her junior season, she has made a crucial decision in her journey for next season. With the Notre Dame women’s basketball star winning Defensive Player of the Year, on top of a standout season, the latest announcement from here will excite any Fighting Irish fans.

According to Michael Voepel of ESPN. Hidalgo is returning to the Fighting Irish for next season and has “no intention of transferring,” meaning she will finish her collegiate career with the school.

“WBCA & Naismith Defensive POY [Hannah Hidalgo] will return to [Notre Dame women’s basketball] for senior season, no intention of transferring, sources say. Hidalgo, who set NCAA season steals record & led Irish to Elite Eight, is not eligible for this WNBA draft, but expected to be a 2027 lottery pick,” Voepel wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Last season, Hildalgo had averaged 25.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and a whopping 5.6 steals per game, while shooting 47.5 percent from the field. She would even say after the Elite Eight loss to the UConn Huskies that there are “so many areas of growth” for her.

“And there’s so many areas of growth left for me on the court,” Hidalgo said, via ESPN. “Just working on creating space, being able to finish over taller players. And then in the WNBA, they’re all bigger, they’re stronger, they’re more athletic, they’re more talented. So, it’s about upping my game, just trying to prepare as much as I can. Building my muscle, getting stronger.”

At any rate, Hidalgo looks to not only improve her own game but also lead the Notre Dame women’s basketball team back to the biggest stage.
