NFL rumors: Jonathan Greenard trade on Eagles’ radar as Howie Roseman plots deals

Few general managers are as aggressive and active as Howie Roseman of the Philadelphia Eagles. Roseman is always looking for ways to improve his team, which is a big reason why Philly has won two Super Bowls with two different coaching staffs and cores with Roseman pulling the strings.

Now, after a disappointing 2025 season that ended in a crushing Wild Card Round playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the Eagles are back at it again. After making some nice pickups in free agency, the Eagles could be targeting Vikings edge rusher Jonathan Greenard in a trade, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“One possibility is adding Vikings linebacker Jonathan Greenard, whom the Eagles have checked in on at various points this offseason, per sources,” Schefter reported. “Greenard had 12 sacks in 2024, but he managed only three last season over 12 games, despite a solid 23.3% pass rush win rate. The Vikings have been adamant about getting a premium Day 2 pick for Greenard. Philadelphia holds pick Nos. 54, 68 and 98 on Day 2 this year.”

Adding an edge rusher makes sense for the Eagles, who have a need at the position. Philly took a rental on Jaelan Phillips at the trade deadline in 2025, but Phillips is off to Carolina after getting a massive $120 million contract from the Panthers in free agency. Greenard, especially at the cost of a Day 2 pick, would be a strong replacement and give the Eagles a big boost in their pass rush.

Greenard isn’t the best defender against the run, but he has become a very good pass rusher during his six seasons in the NFL. In that time, he has accumulated 38 sacks and 60 tackles for loss, so he is an impact player that can force a ton of negative plays for the offense.

The 2025 season was riddled with some injuries for Greenard, but he was incredibly productive during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. During those two years, he recorded 24.5 sacks and made a Pro Bowl in 2024 for the first time in his career. Adding him to an already-talented Eagles defense would give Vic Fangio another formidable unit heading into 2026.
