New ALLBLK film brings romance drama to HBCU alumni life
A new movie about HBCU alumni life is heading to ALLBLK. Funny Thing About Love is hitting the streaming service exclusively on June 11th. The story is set at fictional HBCU Hunter College and features Miles Morris as the main character.
Morris, played by Courtney Burrell, is the best-selling author who is returning to his alma mater for his 10-year reunion. While back at his alma mater, he runs into the woman who broke his heart, Alice Lewis. To make their personal reunion even more tumultuous, he has written a tell-all book inspired by their relationship in undergrad, which includes a secret that Alice wants to be kept buried.
The movie features an all-star cast, including Rockmond Dunbar (best known for Soul Food: The Series and The Game) as Alice’s father Judge Charles Lewis, Bobb’e J. Thompson (best known for That’s So Raven and Wild N’ Out) as Miles’ hilarious best friend Rome, fellow Wild N’ Out alum Jessie Woo as Alice’s sharp best friend Mecca, Trina Braxton, Rolonda Rochelle, and Reece Odum.
The new series premieres on the heels of the success of the ALLBLK series G.R.I.T.S. The series followed three young women who live in the city of Memphis, Tennessee. They look to figure out the next chapter in their lives, while also reaping the rewards of a huge skating competition that could make their next move easier to make happen. They also navigate a strenuous street life, family issues, and a secret that could tear their friend group apart.
