NBA rumors: Will Austin Reaves’ $185 million Lakers contract make Pistons push harder for Tyler Herro trade?

The Los Angeles Lakers have checked off one of the boxes of their offseason to-do list, re-signing Austin Reaves on a four-year, $185 million contract. He was their No. 1 priority going into the offseason, and now they don’t have to worry about any other team trying to take him. One of those teams that had interest was the Detroit Pistons, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

“Reaves was expected to receive free-agent interest from multiple teams — such as Detroit — on maximum-level salary, so the Lakers stepped up on Wednesday to lock in their homegrown talent. Reaves went from undrafted to a two-way player — to making the Lakers roster and now multiple lucrative deals in L.A,” Charania wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

The Pistons have been a name floating around over the past few days as they look to secure a scorer alongside Cade Cunningham. They were rumored to be interested in Tyler Herro, and they could still look to acquire him in a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks, according to NBA insider Marc Stein and Jake Fischer.

“As The Stein Line first reported last Thursday, Detroit has legitimate interest in acquiring Herro and league sources say those talks are taking place,” Stein and Fischer wrote. “Sources indicate that the Bucks will both listen to trade offers for Herro and consider keeping the Milwaukee native on the roster.”

If anything, their interest will probably be higher now since Reaves is off the board, and it might be cheaper to do so.

Norman Powell is also another guard the Pistons have interest in, as there is a slim chance that he returns to the Miami Heat after the Giannis Antetokounmpo acquisition. He’ll be demanding a hefty deal, and the Heat just don’t have the money to do so as they try to fill out the rest of their roster.
