NBA rumors: Warriors insider delivers killer reality about Giannis Antetokounmpo trade package

The Golden State Warriors have always had one goal in the Stephen Curry era, and that’s to win. As the years have gone on, it’s been a harder to do, but this organization has shown that they’re going to try their best to maximize the roster. This offseason, they’ll most likely do their due diligence on Giannis Antetokounmpo, but it’s hard to see the Milwaukee Bucks liking anything they could get in return.

ESPN’s Anthony Slater believes that the Warriors are not at the front of the line when it comes to a respectable package for the Bucks’ star.

“I think [the Warriors] are not 1st in line, not 2nd, or 3rd in line really at this point as far as packages that appeal most to Milwaukee [for Giannis],” Slater said on Willard and Dibs.

In the same breath, Slater also doesn’t think that the Warriors are that pressed to go after a big star like they were before last season.

“I don’t sense a level of thirst that there maybe previously was. There doesn’t feel like that much level of thirst from the Warriors as maybe there was in the last 18 months,” Slater said.

If that’s the case, the best route the Warriors can go is finding talent along the margins to help improve the team. The first step in doing that is using their No. 11 pick.

“You don’t want to be loaded with 19-year-olds and 37-year-olds,” Slater said. “Try to hit that sweet spot, but probably use the pick. You could find a really good right away type player with upside at 11, particularly in this draft. Instead of using the mid-level on a De’Anthony Melton type, you try to take a swing on a younger guy with some upside.”

It will be interesting to see what kind of moves the Warriors make during the offseason.
