NBA rumors: The last-minute Michael Porter Jr. trade decision Warriors made before deadline

The Golden State Warriors were active during the trade deadline, and they were able to acquire Kristaps Porzingis from the Atlanta Hawks. That was the only trade they were looking to make with an Eastern Conference team, as they tried to bring Michael Porter Jr. to the team, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

“Porter Jr., who turns 28 on June 29th, drew trade interest from teams, including the Golden State Warriors, as the deadline neared,” Scotto wrote. “The Warriors considered parting with a first-round pick for Porter Jr. hours before the deadline, league sources told HoopsHype. In addition, Terance Mann was brought up in expanded discussions involving Porter Jr., but there were complications regarding his involvement, which would’ve necessitated a potential third team, HoopsHype has learned. Brooklyn also values Mann, who was a starter last season and is considered a strong veteran presence in their young locker room.”

Adding Porter to the Warriors would have been a great move for them, especially with how Porter was playing for the Nets. He averaged a career-high 24.2 points per game and was obviously the No. 1 option on the team.

His role would’ve changed being on the Warriors, but he still had enough firepower on offense that could’ve helped them have a surge at the end of the season.

It’s uncertain what the Nets are going to do with Porter moving forward. If they can get something enticing for him, it wouldn’t be surprising if they moved him. At the same time, they don’t plan on being a bad team for long, and they believe he can be the cornerstone for their future.

As for the Warriors, they’re still looking for ways to improve the team, and if they want to circle back with the Nets at some point during the season, they can do that.
